it plans to sell its parcels business United Carriers as part of a longterm move out of transportation to concentrate on its core activities.
Bunzl sold York Trailer to its management in June for 224.3 million, but group strategic planner Tim Sanders says that it has been expanding its transport operations by buying Robsons and Thomson & jewitt this year: "York did not fit into our transport activities as an engineering business," he says.
A Sunday newspaper claim that Bunzl planned to sell United for 2100 million, has come as news to staff at the carrier, which Bunzl bought as United Parcels for 296 million three years ago.
