Which cover is most comprehensive? What options are available to extend the cover? Here we present the first at-a-glance comparison, featuring 38-tonne trucks and the more popular engines and drivelines.

ENGINES
Caterpillar Standard warranty two years/162,000km. Optional, extra-cost extended warranty packages available to meet individual requirements.
Cummins Standard warranty 12 months/unlimited mileage with block, crank, connecting rods, camshaft, partsonly cover to 36 months/480,000km.
Optional extra-cost schemes include: Cummins Custom Cover, a low-cost, listed-parts-only cover scheme for five years/1,000,000km; or the Cummins Extra Cover scheme which provides warranty extension packages, at extra cost, for up to three years/500,000km. Perkins (Gardner) Standard warranty 12 months/unlimited mileage. Optional, extra-cost second year warranty extension available.
Perkins (Shrewsbury) Standard warranty two years/unlimited mileage. Optional five-year Fair Deal listed-parts-only cover scheme available.

Iveco Ford Standard warranty 12 months/unlimited mileage and second year/unlimited mileage extension on driveline, subject to regular maintenance and arbitration. Extra-cost extended warranty cover negotiable. Leyland Daf Standard warranty 12 months/unlimited mileage and second parts-only driveline warranty cover. MAN Standard warranty 12 months/ unlimited mileage. Extended warranty cover negotiable to cover driveline and any other componentry as required. Mercedes-Benz Standard warranty 12 months/unlimited mileage and second year/200,000km extension on driveline. Optional extended warranty cover available at extra cost.
Renault Standard warranty 12 months/ unlimited mileage and extension driveline cover available for second/third years (dependent on model). Operator to pay first 2250 for any claim in this period. Optional extra-cost three-year extended warranty available (depends on regular dealer maintenance/repair).
Scania Standard warranty 12 months/ unlimited mileage. Extension cover for a further six months for major components available (subject to arbitration). Extracost warranty cover available to a maximum of 48 months.
Seddon Atkinson Standard warranty 12 months/unlimited mileage and second year extension. Warranty cover during second year is proportional depending on time, such that a claim in the 13 to 18month period provides 100% of parts cost and 50% of labour cost. In the 19 to 24-month period 50% of parts cost and 30% of labour costs are provided under the standard warranty. Extra-cost extended warranty cover is available to meet individual requirements.
Steyr Standard warranty 12 months/ unlimited mileage and second year extension/unlimited mileage on driveline. Volvo Standard warranty 12 months/ unlimited mileage and second year extension for driveline (subject to availability of dealer maintenance record).
