TALKS wre still in full session at 6pm on Tuesday as BL executives met Co Durham businessman David Brown to discuss his bid to take over Leyland Vehicles Ltd.

Mr Brown, whose DJB Engineering company employs 620 and has an annual turnover of £25m, says he can raise the funds to buy out LV which employs 24,000 and has a £500m turnover.

But BL chairman Sir Michael Edwardes has publicly criticised Mr Brown's handling of his bid, saying that it was "irresponsible, unhelpful, and done in quite the wrong way," and he pulled out of Tuesday's meeting.

Mr Brown was not available when CM tried to contact him this week.
