LYKA Shuntlift elevating fifth-wheel couplings have been fitted to two Buffalo tractive units used for yard shunting of trailers at Leyland's central parts warehouse at Chorley.
The Shuntlifts permit the trailers to be parked closer together (since access to the landing legs is not required) and save time when shunting., A panel in the cab houses a tumbler air switch for engaging the power take-off, push buttons for raising and lowering the fifth wheel, a rotary air switch for unlocking the king-pin jaws, and two warning lights indicating engagement of the power takeoff and the coupling raised.
