CRITICAL situation is developing at the Motor Industry ch Association (MIRA). Despite having just completed its t year, the Association is in danger of having to cut back on velopment plans unless £2m is pumped into it soon.
David Plastow, MIRA's preent, told the Department of dustry last week that the sociation had found half of e fAm it required and that blic spending cuts should t be allowed to interfere .th MIRA's needs — esially in view of its excellent ck record. During 1978-9 MIRA's income increased by £0,5m, its surplus increased by 200 per cent and overseas earnings increased by 44 per cent. Its world-wide standing was enhanced last year following the completion of a contract with Korea, said Mr Plastow.
The additional cash is req uired for expansion which includes plans for a new engine test laboratory with altitude chambers, improvements to the barrier impact facility, fatigue test equipment, a dynamometer and associated service facilities % Already the Association has dropped plans for a climatic wind tunnel at the suggestion of the Department of Industry.
