;EVEN VEHICLES were deleted from the 11 vehicle licence held py J. Cox Limited of York when the company appeared at lisciplinary proceedings before the Yorkshire Deputy Licensing kuthority, N. F. Moody, at Hull on December 5.
Mr Moody said that despite a warning letter in May 1978, six prohibitions had been placed on the company's nine vehicle leet.
In defence of the company, 'aul Cox said he was acting as ransport manager while the irincipal director was away rom the business. A trailer rhich had been given a proibition for a seized parking rake has since been scrapped. le commented that drivers id not always use the trailer arking brake during loading.
Mr Cox claimed that many f the defects arose during veryday operation. He said 'tat a new service garage was eing built at Market Weigh)fl which would incorporate a double vehicle pit. He expected this would be operational by the end of January.
Questioned by Mr Moody, Mr Cox said the vehicles were inspected monthly by his brother and himself. He ad.mitted that neither he, nor his brother, were qualified mechanics.
Asked about his conviction for operating a vehicle in a dangerous condition, Mr Cox said that it concerned a trailer of an articulated vehicle which had parted company with the tractor. A small spring was later found missing from the locking device, but the driver had said the spring was in position when he coupled up the trailer that morning.
Curtailing the licence by seven vehicles, Mr Moody said no second warning was issued. The evidence showed a very serious state of affairs with vehicles unfit to be on the road. The company must take urgent steps to remedy the situation.
