MERCEDES-BENZ repoits that its computer-operated Fleet Information Service is now being used by 30 British companies with over 1400 commercial vehicles between them.

The FIS fleet costing system was launched by MercedesBenz at the NEC Motor Show last year. Operators using the system can choose froin various available computer outputs.

Expenditure and operating data is fed in and cost arid performance figures come out. The performance can be assessed in terms most applicable to the individual operator — cube utilisation, weight and load factors, number of deliveries, and so on.

Mercedes-Benz says thle value of the FIS system is to highlight areas of poor perfofmance, or which are costly, and to compare actual costs and productivity with earlier predictions.

Acceptable minimums cah be built in to the individual operator's programme whict will automatically alert the operator if these standards gi4e not met.
