THE NATIONAL Federation of Women's Institutes has thrown in its pennyworth to Armitage, with calls for enforced speed limits, restrictions on heavy lorries, transfer terminals, and a demand for more rail freight.
Its submission followed a countrywide survey of members, and identified such problems as heavy lorries making excessive use of country lanes, fast-moving lorries threatening cyclists and pedestrians, grass verges and houses being harmed by lorries, and increasing pollution of the countryside by "noise and fumes".
