• The reason why a weighing machine vas provided at Liverpool's Seaforth Dock only for lorries entering the ;omplex, whereas none was provided Or lorries leaving, was explained by Mr . Frearson, of the Mersey Docks and iarbour Co at a meeting of the transport onunittee of Merseyside Chamber of `-ommerce.
He explained that it was necessary ) weigh containers and provide an ppropriate certificate for those bound )r the USA and Canada.
Containers arriving from those countries 'ere accompanied by a weight certifiate which made weighing at Seaforth nnecessary. Efforts were being made ) reach international agreement on the doption of the practice of weighing conLiners at ports of shipment.
