TWO immediate and five delayed prohibitions were placed on the seven-vehicle fleet of Perora Transport Ltd., Sheffield, between April and June this year. This was stated at a Section 178 inquiry in Leeds last week.
Repairs amounting to £475 had been carried out on one of the vehicles which had received an immediate GV9 in May and it was cleared nine days later. That vehicle was operated until September and then sold. Two new vehicles will be purchased to replace this and another older vehicle. However. Mr. P. Thatcher, a director, said he would not be doing so immediately as he was waiting for certain regulations to be sorted out by the Ministry before he felt inclined to invest any more money in the haulage business.
Small fleet The Yorkshire Licensing Authority, Mr. H. E. Robson, pointed out that the fleet was comparatively small and the prohibitions had been issued within a short period. Mr. Thatcher said this was caused through bad maintenance and an inefficient fitter, who
had now been replaced by a man with 25 years' experience.
In June a Ministry examiner had been asked by Mr. Thatcher to carry out a fleet inspection and give advice regarding maintenance records. In evidence the examiner, Mr. Andrews, said he had found no necessity to criticize the vehicles since the new fitter had joined the company.
One vehicle was suspended for one month and the LA said a further vehicle inspection would be carried out in three months' time.
