In 1901-02, receipts amounted to t8,851. passengers carried numbered 2.124,259 and the mileage run was 212,425. The last year of the complete tramway system was 1927, when receipts
amountedto 1272,690, With 40,806,234 passengers carried and a mileage of 2,402,349. Oldham has now an all-bus system and for the year 1949-50 the receipts were £599,827. passengers carried totalled 80,768,424 and the mileage run was 5,988.675. The fleet now consists of 226 oilengined double-deckers and 14 singledeckers, and provides services extending to Manchester, Rochdale, Denshavv. Greenfield, Stalybridge and Ashtonunder-Lyne. The undertaking, of which Mr. Cyril P. Paige, M.Inst.T., is general manager, claims to have been the first to operate 8-ft. buses constructed for use in this country and to have been the first in Europe to run buses with fluorescent lighting.
