COUNTY ARMAGH haulage firm LMK International Transport has been fined £400 after one of its trucks was discovered running without a goods vehicle certificate and its driver was discovered to be in possession of an invalid driving licence.
In a Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) prosecution, Belfast Magistrates' Court was told how, in August 2012, DVA enforcement officers stopped one of the firm's artics as it travelled along the Al2 Westlink in Belfast. Officers examined the vehicle
and found no goods vehicle certificate in place for the Scania.
Further checks revealed that the driver didn't hold a valid driving licence, therefore rendering any insurance invalid.
After this, a representative from LMK International Transport — based at a unit in James Park, Mahon Road, Portadown — was interviewed under caution and admitted to the offences. LMK was fined £50 for causing and permitting a motor vehicle to be driven by an unlicensed driver, £200 for using a vehicle without
valid insurance and £50 for using a vehicle without a goods vehicle certificate.
The charges were brought under the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 and LMK was also ordered to pay court costs of £56. Summing up
