Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Derbyshire tippermen have received letters from ARC asking them to submit fresh tenders for contract work — and the company has also raised its diesel prices.

The ARC move is believed to have been prompted by the downturn in the construction industry which is hitting quarry owners hard.

ARC put its diesel prices up to 34p/litre in July, having held its prices since February.

It claims it has written to its

contract hauliers inviting new tenders for tipping work. The move has been prompted by "declining markets and redundancies", it says. "These arrangements are not new within the industry," says a spokesman, adding, "it is a common practice among our competitors." ARC claims its distribution manager has visited each depot to discuss the move with hauliers. "It is an attempt to ensure continuing employment for hauliers," it says.
