A £200,000 GRANT is being made by the Government to the Liverpool Contained:m.5e so that it can re-equip its railhead depot at Aintree Liverpool. It covers 50 per cent of the cost of the work and is the first such grant to be made under Section 8 of the 1974 Railways Act.
This provides for grants for facilities designed to encourage the transport of goods by rail instead of road. The Government—,Which admits that res ponse to the scheme has been " disappointing " — has ten Other applications under consideration.
