Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to London Transport were returned to the coachbuilders for modifications to the roof. Is this true, and if so, what were the alterations?

AA spokesman for London Transport has confirmed that many of these buses were, in fact, returned to the coachbuilders for modifications to the roof structure. Although the fault was not dangerous, the opportunity was taken to have the roof panel joints modified while the buses were still under guarantee.

The trouble was caused by the excessive -whip" of the body structure which has proved to be a common feature of rear-underfloor-engined single-deckers, and is by no means confined to the LTB buses. Most leading coachbuilders in Britain have encountered this difficulty with rear-engined single-deckers at one time or another, and have consequently had to strengthen the roof joints.
