• The Minister of Transport now has to approve fare alterations by London Transport Board, This control was taken from the Transport Tribunal and handed over to the Minister last Friday, when certain sections of the Transport (London) Act came into force.
Mr. Marsh has also taken the power— provided for in the Act—to pay deficit grant to the London Transport Board up to the date when the capital's public transport is transferred to the Greater London Council.
Another section of the Act brought into effect last Friday makes it clear that the GLC has the power to delegate to a London Borough carrying out roadworks on its behalf powers to make temporary traffic orders prohibiting or restricting vehicles while the work is going on.
