• "Lock up your lorries !" will be a major theme of a special display of the most up-to-date anti-theft devices and security methods, to be staged during this year's LDoY Finals on Sunday September 7 at Bramcote, Northants. This exhibition, organized by the Warwickshire police and the R HA, will be staffed by crime prevention officers ready to give advice and answer questions on such matters as alarms, locks, seals, identification cards and guarded lorry parks.
There will be far more side attractions than ever before at the Finals this year, the accent being on entertainment for the whole family rather than for father alone. The Daily Mirror will be holding a children's gala, roller cycle racing and tests of strength. while Woman magazine will be running a "Lorry driver's ideal wife" competition.
British Ropes Ltd. will be continuing its long-popular sheeting and roping contest and experts from East London Hydraulics Ltd. will be in attendance to discuss clutch and braking problems.
With a total of nearly 300 finalists, this will certainly be the largest and most ambitious contest yet. Last year's champion, Sam Gray, of Irish Eggs Ltd., will be back to defend his title, challenged by many drivers whose names have frequently appeared in Finals programmes.
