FTA kicks off campaign is" • to Lift industry's image

CM COVER STORY

justin.stantontarbi.co.uk THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT As.sociation's (FTA) Love Logistics campaign to improve the industry's image was launched this week in two parts.

Part one, aimed at MPs. policy-makers and other influencers, is a 72-page Logistics Report, which "showcases both the challenges the industry faces, and its successes in spite of the economic environment and other pressures." says F1'A communications director Jo Tanner. "It's a blueprint for policy-makers, not only to improve the lot of logistics. hut also the lot of UK plc." The FTA plans to produce the report annually.

FTA policy director James Hookham says: "Logistics is the UK economy's health service. We are not looking for special treatment, but we are looking for greater respect for what our members do day in. day out."

The second part of Love Logistics is an attempt to help the public understand the role logistics plays, with four short films focusing on milk distribution, concert tour logistics, healthcare logistics. and the distribution of televisions. These films will be promoted to the consumer media, and the FTA hopes to show them in schools.

"We're keen for a career in logistics to be seen as one of first choice rather than last resort," says Tanner. -Get children excited about logistics and they're going to want to work in it."

The films, which premiered at the ETA's Logistics Showcase in Birmingham on Tuesday (13 April), can be viewed at www.lovelogistics.co.uk.

The FTA wants all parts of the industry to get involved in the campaign. "It will only succeed if every single trade association. every single company and every single individual buys into it." says Tanner.
