NATIONAL Freight Corporation prices are to rise by up to 12 per cent as a result of buoyancy in manufacturing industry and the Chancellor's Budget package, according to a Corporation spokesman.
The rise is also understood to be linked with an under capacity in the haulage industry which would not be able to cope with the increase in products to be moved.
Last week NFC chief execu tive Peter Thompson said that for the first time in three years the combination would allow hauliers to pick up the ground lost on prices in past years.
He said the sellers' market. situation would allow hauliers to put their prices up without losing business.
He estimated that 15 per cent of the nation's lorry fleet had been lost die to high fuel prices over the past few years.
The current rise with ano ther round of price increases in the autumn will mean NFC prices will rise by around 22 per cent this year.
Already the loss-making National Carriers company has traded profitably in the first quarter of 1977.
NFC is limited to capital investment of £27 million this year and this will only be enough to invest in vehicles where there is a customer commitment.
