Tachos v logbook
THE EUROPEAN Commission is warming to the idea of a test to compare the merits of the conventional log book with those of the tachograph.
But the Commission has warned that it will not necessarily be impressed by the findings of such a test.
The idea was sponsored by Transport and General Workers Union leader Jack Jones when he met European Transport Commissioner Richard Burke in Brussels for the first time.
During the 50-minute meeting, Mr Jones spoke for both the Irish and British drivers. He said they would accept the tacho for Continental journeys but felt that the existing log book is sufficient for national journeys.
