PARIS, which already has more common user road terminals than any other city in France or even in Europe, is about to open another "entrepogare" as part of a long-term French Railways plan to use land formerly occupied by conventional goods yards for up-to-date road/rail facilities.
French Rail — SNCF — has over the past few years been actively associated with the establishment of rail-served distribution centres in which the road side is playing an increasingly important role. The SER NA M subsidiary, which has a country-wide network of c and d depots, also offers warehousing with or without storage control.
The new Paris Citrail depot located at Pantin, lets than a kilometre east of the ring road expressway, differs in its concept by providing transit and warehouse accommodation for users who are not necessarily tail customers.
Particular attention has been given to road vehicle marshalling and parking areas and each of the 12 blocks comprising the Pantin scheme has nine lorry docks.
