IN A SURPRISE visit to London this week Herr Walter HMI, a senior official at the Department of Health and Social Security in Germany, called on the Transport and General Workers Union to discuss the implementation of EEC Regulation 1463 in Britain.
This is the regulation dealing with the introduction of tachographs.
The meeting was organised by the Secretary of the International Road Transport Federation, Mr A. Wuensche.
Before the meeting, Herr MTh told CM that he recommended the introduction of the tachograph on the basis of improved road safety, and that he could not understand the TGWU attitude to the instrument.
