Not for Beverly Smyth anyway. In the 1 30 or so years since the company was started by John Beverly Smyth (who has to take responsibility for the firm's curious name), it has gained a world-wide reputation in the specialised field of antique and fine art removals.
This sort of specialised work relies more on careful packing than on a huge transport fleet. In contrast to the bung-themin a tea chest and hope for-the-best school of house removals, the staff of Beverly Smyth can spend up to three or four weeks simply packing the goods to be shipped.
"You have to use very expensive materials on it," says Larry O'Shea, the md, "like rubber foam, special padded paper, that sort of thing. Then the goods are crated and put into containers.''
