PLEA that the Scottish )evelopment Department mist maintain the much-used .7.oupar Angus route was made )57 the chairman of the North ;cotland division of the ■ ''reight Transport Association ast week.
Speaking at the division's innual luncheon at Perth, the %airman, Jack Isdale, said bat once all the improvements to the A85/A929 (Perth, Dundee, Forfar) had been undertaken, then it would be a natural route for heavy lorries.
Until that time, said Mr 1sdale, it was essential that the SDD recognised the realities of the temporary situation and accepted financial responsibility for the Coupar Angus route.
He went on to say that if the SDD failed to make special financial arrangements for the route, it would be placing a hopeless burden on Tayside Regional Council.
Mr Isdale also said any moves to compel heavy lorries to use the new trunk route before the improvements were made would be strongly opposed by the FTA.
