Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE State bus undertaking of Trinidad and Tobago —the Public Transport Service Corporationhas ordered 109 AEC Reliance underfloor-engineci, single-deck bus/coach chassis worth some £400,000. All the vehicles will be assembled by local labour at the Port of Spain plant of Neal and Massy Ltd., AEC distributors.

At present there are 96 Reliance buses in the fleet, of which 25 are the latest design 36 ft.-long vehicles. The new vehicles differ from the earlier models in that they have more powerful-diesel engines which develop 153 b.b.p. These, too, will be 36 ft. long with bodywork by Metal Sections Ltd.. of Oldbury, Birmingham.

Southport Orders Bus Bodies: Southport Corporation transport committee has accepted a fixedprice quotation of Metropolitan-Cammell Weymann Ltd., of Birmingham, for the supply and delivery of 12 single-deck bus bodies for mounting on Leyland Panther chassis at a cost of £3,875 each for the first six bodies and 13,965 for the remainder.

Buses for Birkenhead: Tenders are invited, by Birkenhead Corporation Transport for the supply of 13 large-capacity, front-entrance, double-deck buses for delivery in 1968.

LT Move: The London Transport offices of Mr. K. G. Shave, chief mechanical engineer (road services) and Mr. J. W. Wicks, deputy chief mechanical engineer (road services) have been moved to Chiswick Works, High Road, London W4. (Tel: CH1swick 3641). J. J. Spooner and R. J. Bellchambers have been appointed directors of Autocar and Transporters Ltd., Alvechurch, near Birmingham, and B. J. Henry Ltd., Oxford. Mr. Spooner is director and general manager and Mr. Bellchambers director and chief accountant of both companies.

Nelson Smith, of Nelson Smith, Edinburgh, has been co-opted to the committee of the Forth Division of the Industrial Transport Association. This is an extension of Mr. Smith's activities which already cover the Edinburgh Tipper Group, the RHA and the Contractors, Mechanical, Plant and Equipment Association.

At the a.g.m. of the mid-Cornwall sub-area of the Devon and Cornwall area of the RHA, Capt. J. H. Allison was elected chairman, with N. J. Grose as vice-chairman. In the Plymouth sub-area, Col. T. J. Emerson was elected chairman, with W. G. Stoneham as vice-chairman, and in the Exeter sub-area, F. G. Heale was elected chairman, with H. Holman as vice-chairman.

At the a.g.m. of the Western area of the RHA, Frank E. Russell, chairman of the board of Western Transport Ltd., of Bristol, was reelected as area chairman for the ensuing year. Vice-chairmen are T. H. Amblin (W. Viney Ltd.) and V. Young (Vivian Young (Transport) Ltd.). Included in those elected at sub-area meetings were: Chipping Sodbury—.I. Clark, chairman; C. Brock, vice-chairman. Forest of Dean—C. Bevan, chairman; T. H. Tomkins, vice-chairman. Bristol and District—J. J. Baylis, chairman; P. H. Jenkins and H. A. Russett, vice-chairmen. West Somerset—R. J. Bown, chairman; C. H. Baulch, vice-chairman. Gloucester—C. H. Lewis, chairman; W. J. Bowles, vice-chairman. Stroud—V. Young, chairman; J. Fry, vicechairman. Devizes and Central Wilts—C. Ft Telling, chairman; L. R. G. Pike, vice-chairman. Livestock functional group (Western)—L. R. G. Pike, chairman; R. J. Carpenter, vice-chairman.

W. J. D. Mills has been appointed district manager, Bristol, of India Tyres Ltd. in succession to L. Cazaly, who has retired after 32 years with the company. J. A. C. Hastrick has been appointed sales representative for the Bristol area in succession to Mr. Mills. S. J. Fitch becomes c.v. manager, Greater London, and has been replaced as area manager, East London, by R. Sherwood.

At the a.g.m. of the South Wales division of the TRTA, J. R. Elliott (Alcan Industries Ltd.) was re-elected chairman. Vice-chairmen elected were J. I. Plenty (Hoover Ltd.), J. Graves (Aberthaw Cement Co. Ltd.) and E. Jackson (John Williams of Cardiff Ltd.).

J. E. Stanford has been appointed export sales executive for Rubery Owen and Co. Ltd., motor division. He joined the company in 1957.

L. Bell has been elected chairman of the Carlisle sub-area of the Northern area of the RHA, with G. A. Stamper as vice-chairman. R. Hyslop has been appointed service manager of Taskers of Andover (1932) Ltd.

A. F. Walton has been appointed area manager, Southern, of BRS Parcels Ltd. and S. C. G. White has been appointed London parcels manager.

Lord Chesham has been appointed to the newly-created position of executive vice-chairman to the Royal Automobile Club. A Privy Councillor, 49-year-old Lord Chesham was Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport 1959-64 and is currently a member of the Minister of Transport's National Road Safety Advisory Council. He will be chairman of. the 1966 COMMERCIAL MOTOR Fleet Management Conference in September.

P. G. Lyth, at present an assistant chief engineer in the London Highways division of the Ministry of Transport, has been promoted to deputy chief engineer in succession to J. L. Paisley, who was recently appointed chief highway engineer. G. E. Rowland, a superintending engineer at Ministry headquarters at present serving in the Urban Planning Directorate at the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, has been promoted to take over Mr. Lyth's post. Mr. Lyth, who is 49, joined the Ministry of Transport in 1947. Mr. Rowland, 47, joined the Ministry in 1949.

A. J. Smith, director of engineering, Commer Cars Ltd., has joined the board of Dodge Brothers (Britain) Ltd. and becomes director of engineering of both Commer Cars and Dodge Brothers. C. E. J. Pemberton has been appointed chief engineer of Commer Cars.

R. E. Sugden, director and general manager of Eastern Coach Works Ltd., has been re-elected president of the National Federation of Vehicle Trades for a second year. E. R. Fox, director of Vanden Plas (England) 1923 Ltd., and W. E. Dodsworth, director and works manager of Park Royal Vehicles Ltd., were re-elected vice-presidents.

OBITUARY

We regret to record the death of Mr. George V. Dennis.

Mr. Dennis, who was 71, started a long-distance luxury coach service between Nottingham and Blackpool under the name of Robin Hood Coaches. The business was acquired by Barton Transport Ltd., in 1961.
