Two Oldbury Haulage Concerns Buy 17 More Vehicles : Unit Purchases Reported from Six Areas
ikNOTHER 23 lorries, with a total unladen weight of 84 tons 19 cwt., have been bought by Mr. Arthur Rhodes, 261 Carlton Road, Nottingham. With the exception of one, they have now been transferred to other operators.
In the West Midlands, Mr., R. N. Richardson and Oldbury Transport, Ltd., have between them taken over another 17 vehicles, including an articulated outfit (801 tons).
Mr. N. Hibberd, of Hibber'd and Sons (Birmingham), Ltd., Warwick Street Garages, Coventry, was not, as was stated in the heading of this feature last week, the former owner of the Earlsdon depot of British Road Services. The business was wholly owned . by Mr. A. W. Eagles until A. W. Eagles. Led., was formed in 1948. Mr. Eagles is now freight superintendent of the Coventry Group of B.R.S. As the report correctly stated, Mr. tlibberd was a director and secretary of A. W. Eagles, Ltd.
SCOTLAND Six lorries (17.1 tons) have been sold to Dunmhor Transport. Ltd., Twynholm. by Flayton Coulthard, Dee Walk. Kirkcudbright. Mr. David W. Ward, Alva, has also purchased six lorries (191 tons).
Four more lorries (111 tons) have been taken over by Pentland Garage, Ltd., Loanhead.
Special A licences have also been granted by the Scottish Licensing Authority to: Mr. James Crichton. Bellshill, for two lorries (71 tons): Mr. William Tait, Ayton, three (141 tons); Mr. Fraser Ross, Fearn, two (61 tons): Messrs. West's Transport. Dunfermline, one (3 tons), and Russell of Bathgate, Bathgate. one (3 tons), both assigned by Central Garage (Bathgate), Ltd., Bathgate; Mr. D. J. Malcolm, Johnstone. one (3 tons) assigned by Mr. T. H. Bryson. Cambaslang; J. and Cl. Campbell, Ltd., Dalkeith, one (3 tons) assigned by Mr. Alexander M. Wright, Dalkeithe MeKeehnie Motors (Girvan), Ltd., Girvan. one (31 tons) assigned by T. J. WEST MiDLANDS Another 14 vehicles, including an articulated outfit (60 tons), have gone to Mr. R. N. Richardson, 100 Dudley Road East, Oldbury. He has transferred three of these (12 tons) to Mr. A. Mason, Engine Street, Smethwiek; one (31 tons) to Gleaves Transport (Audlem), Ltd., Audlem, near Crewe; and the articulated outfit (42 tons) to Mr. J. E. Cartwright. 96 Lodge Hill Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham. Oldbury Transport, Ltd., who are also at 100 Dudley Road East, Oldbury, have bought another three lorries (201 tons).

EAST MIDCANDS
Mr. Arthur Rhodes. 261 Carlton Road, Nottingham, has bought another 23 lorries (84 tons 19 cwt.). Twenty-two of these have been assigned: two (5 tons 18 cwt.) to Messrs. Benton Bros., 14 Union Street, Boston; one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. A. F. Kemp, New York, Lincoln; one (3 tons) to Mr. A. E. Dowlman, Roy Dene, Sloothby. near Alford; one (3 tons) to Mr. G. W. Reeve, The Common, Bardney, near Lincoln; one (4 tons) to Messrs. Tom Bell and Sons, 7 North Street. Horneastic; one (31 tons) to Messrs. W. F. and F. Coxon, Station Road, North Thoresby, near Grimsby: one (41 tons) to Mr. W. T. Slack. 72 High Street, Loscoe; two OW tons) to B. Keetch (Hauliers), Ltd.. 49 -Mansfield Road, Nottingham; and 12 (44 tons 6 cwt.) to Mr. E. E. Bamford, Mansfield Road Garage, Alfreton.
Mr. Bamford has also bought three lorries (18 tons 9 cwt.) from Mr. R. E. Ward, 315 Alfred Street North, Nottingham, wile) has also sold a lorry (4 tons El.ewt.) to Mr. J. Ast:II, 35 Longfield Lane, Ilkeston. One (4 tons 1 cwt.) of Mr. Bamford's lorries has been transferred to Mr. K. Kinds, 73 Town Green, Rothley.
A number of vehicles has been transferred by Messrs. J. Bradshaw and Sons, Siurron-by-Stow. near Lincoln, who have been granted special A licences for another 28 vehicles, including eight articulated outfits (99 tons 16 cwt.). Sarah C. Clixby, 57 High Street, Blyton, near Gainsborough, has taken over one vehicle (2 tons-16 cwt.); Mr. E. R. Beal, Washingborough Road, Lincoln, one (3 tons); Mr. J. W. Cousins, Mill House. Waddingham, near Gainsborough, two (7 tons 7 ewe); and Mr. A. Sutherell. Albion Works. Long Leys Road, Lincoln, an articulated outfit (41 tons).
Two (6 tons 17 cwt.) of three lorries bought by Messrs. W. and D.F. Thompson and D. F. Wright, Park View Estate. Crowle, Scunthorpe, have gone to Mr. W. Thompson, of the same address, and the other (3 tons) to Mr. D. F. Wright iWrigh(s Haulage). East Common Lane, Scunthorpe. Mr. Wright has also made a direct purchase of a lorry (31 tons). Henry Bell and Co. (Grantham), Ltd.. Wharf Road, Grantham, have bought II vehicles, including an articulated outfit (341 tons), and assigned them to Grantham Road Services, Lid., Harlaxton Road, Grantham.
The East 'Midland licensing Authority has also granted a special A licence to James Gamble (Transport), Ltd., 62 Swain's Avenue. Sneinton Dale, Neetirgham, for four lorries (29 tons 14 cwt.) ess'gried by Messrs. Brownhill's Motor Sales, in the West Midland Traffic Area.
EASTERN COUNTIES
Two articulated outfits (11) tons) have been made over to A. Dent (Hilgayl, Ltd., Fairfield Garage. Hilgay. by Turners (Soham), Ltd., 39 Hall Street, Soham, Ca nibs.
Mr. L. C. Cammack (L. C. Cammack and Son), Church View, Colne Engaine, Essex, has also purchased an artieulsted outfit (41 tons). It was assigned by W. D. A. Griffiths. Amento, Moulton, Suffo!k.
Valliant Direct Coaches, Ltd., 38 Uxbridge Road, London, W.5, have as.;ened a lorry (3 tons) to each of the following: Mr: R. D. .Woodcock. 28 Dunstable Street, Ampthill, and Mr. F.' J. Cracknell, The Mill, Bedingfield, Suffolk.
SOUTH WALES
Another three lorries (141tons) have gone to Gwynne Bowen (Transport). Ltd., 141 West Street, Gorseinon, Swansea, They were assigned by Storage Co. (Penarth), Ltd., West Terrace, Penarth.
Valley Carriers, Ltd., Grove Terrace, Penarth, have assigned vehicles to the following: Willsbridge Transport, Ltd., Bryants Hill, St. George, Bristol (three): Messrs. Dixon and Bool. Building 22, The Airport, Pengam, Cardiff (one-31 tons); Mr. R. G. Morgan, 18 New Road, Porthcawl (one-42 tons); and Mr, F. R. P. Raymond, Pongwyn, Penyfai, Bridgend ne-71 tons). In turn, Valley Carriers have taken over three lorries (171 tons), two from S. Ball and Son (Transport), Ltd., Chipping Sodbury, Glos. and the other from Grove Garages (Penarth), Ltd., Grove Terrace, Penarth.
Mr. R. J. Greatrex, Springfield, Cowbridge Road, Ely, Cardiff, has made a direct purchase of another two lorries (II tons).

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Ampee Transport Co., Ltd., 640 High Road, London, £.11, have added another
lorry (31 tons) to their fleet. It was assigned by Mr. W. J. Taylor, 5 Montague Road, London, E.11. Mr. C. Szwyeer (Ampez Supplies Co.), who are also based at 640 High Road, London,E.11, have taken over a lorry (2 tons 14 cwt.) from Mr. H. Harris, 64 Main Road, Guildford, Surrey.
Another lorry (7 tons 6 cwt.) based in London has gone to Western Tranport, Ltd., 73 Feeder Road, Bristol, 2.
Wells and Son (London), Ltd., 18 Abbots Lane, Tooley Street, London, SE.), have been granted a special A licence for another vehicle (2 tons).
