Road and Air Co-operation

SOME operators acquired by the British Transport Commission are P*-1 complaining of the Commission's tardiness in making the preliminary payment of 99 per cent. In some instances, concerns taken over nearly two months ago have received no payment whatsoever.

A case in pointis that of a Hampshire concern, which was taken over on March 9. The company operated 15 lorries and had been engaged in transport for 40 years. The proprietor told "The Commercial Motor," a few days ago, that so far he had received not a penny in payment, nor had he succeeded in finding out how much compensation he would obtain. He said that letters of complaint that he had written on the subject to the local and headquarters offices of the 13.T.C. had not even been acknowledged.

He added that in January he licensed and insured his fleet for the full year, at a cost of nearly £1,000, and thought that the normal business practice of making at least some payment on the date of -purchase would have been followed.
