" There is not much chance of road transport being allowed any relief from taxation," said. Mr, A. Roy Wise, borough Member of Parliament for Smethwick, at a meeting of the C.M,U.A. on April 7 at Smethwick.
The roads, he pointed out, had swallowed up large areas of good
• agricultural land, and the arterial road automatically became a built-up area. " It is a, fact," he said, " that as roads become straighter, so accidents increase jet number.". he also observed that one of the most important things the highway engineer had to consider was the question of speed and its controlling.
