Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As an owner-driver on subcontract work to Assured Groupage for the past three years, I read your coverage on the company with interest (CM 7-13 Sept). I was told that they had a cash flow problem at the end of May, and as long as the bank did not shut the door they would be able to trade out of the trouble.

When I went on holiday on 19 August for two weeks I was told that there was a light at the end of the tunnel but it would possibly involve merging with another company.

But on phoning in on Thursday 31 August to find out what work I would be doing on the Monday, !found out the company was in the hands of the liquidator.

Assured Groupage owes me more than £18,000. Now I am in a quandry. I am wondering whether to carry on and look for other work or to pull the plug. You work hard to give a good service for seven years and then you get kicked in the teeth. I might pull out of transport altogether considering the fuel costs and low rewards. it's not worth all the hassle. All this government seems to do is look after foreign truckers with their low fuel costs and low VED rates. Stewart M Morison,

SMM Transport Services, Gravesend, Kent.
