• TNT has won its first European distribution contract with Nutricia, parent company af Cow & Gate.
The company's TNT Con:ract Distribution Europe division was set up in January. Its lead office is in the Netherands and it has offices in France, Benelux and West Jermany. .
TNT Contract Distribution F,urope employs 20 people, but eneral manager Max Russo >ays that in five years it will be is large as the UK operation, vhich has 1,000 employees, 46 trucks and 493 trailers.
Under the terms of its first :ontract, TNT will run a warelousing and distribution service hroughout Belgium, and pro de 18 new vehicles with driv:rs and maintenance cover. Iealth foods and milk products vill be handled.
TNT's first expansion into :uropean contract distribution alk)ws almost exactly a year fter the company unveiled an mbitious expansion of its par els network in Europe.
The move follows the coinany's announcement of further xpansion of its air freight opration. It will take delivery of iur more Quiet Traders in late 989 and early 1990, and day time flights will be extended.
It is establishing new airport services at Tours, Toulouse, Avignon and Mulhouse in France, and Valencia and Barcelona in Spain. It is introducing new facilities in Swedish airports Angelholm and Malmo, and bigger depots in Stockholm and Gothenburg. The Cologne air hub will be expanded and TNT has linked with Aeroflot to deliver parcels into Moscow.
Terry Hedger has become business development manager of TNT Truck Care. He formerly worked for Berkshire County Council where he was transport manager. An announcement is expected soon on TNT's first municipal contract.
El TNT has entered the home-delivery market in a joint venture with GUS subsidiary White Arrow, which will operate from February 1990. The marketing and administration will be handled by TNT, while White Arrow will deal with collection and delivery through its 40 depots, four hubs and four warehouses, using its own 3,000 vehicles.
Books, records and photographic assignments of 50 kilos or less will be handled. Only customers with 50 or more jobs a week will initially be able to use the service.
