Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE latest addition to the range of loading equipment made by H. C. Pope, Ltd., 8 Elm Street, Northampton, is the Hipope Dual Loader. The loader is designed as a self-contained unit, having its own petrol engine and hydraulic pump mounted as a unit, so that it can be interchanged between vehicles.

The engine and pump unit are carried in a 2-ft. 4-in. by 1-ft. 11-in. by 1-ft. 8-in. framework which fits into slides on the vehicle frame. A standard Hipope hydraulic ram is employed and the main feature of the Dual Loader is that the lifting cradle has two platforms—one either side of the ram. The linkage ensures that the goods being loaded are lifted vertically.

Maximum capacity is 225 lb. per side450 lb. total and the lifting operation takes up to 6 sec. The actual speed can be controlled accurately. Price of the loader is £171 ex works.

Mirror and Battery Switch

A COMMERCIAL vehicle mirror suitable for use on vehicles of up to 30 cwt. capacity has been introduced by

Joseph Lucas, Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham, 19. The mirror has a hinged mounting and is suitable for fitting on any flat surface such as the cab structure or door.

The arm is 6 in. long and supports a mirror head with a 4-in. dia. flat circular lens. In the event of accidental damage, the mirror glass can be replaced. The mounting bracket, arm and mirror shell have a black finish and the hinge mechanism has a rubber cover. The Lucas Hinged Mirror—Model 540/119— has a retail price of £2 5s.

Also recently introduced by Lucas are two battery master switches—Models ST360 and ST370—designed for dieselengined vehicles and tractors fitted with 12 v. starting systems. The new models are similar in appearance to those for petrol-engined vehicles but have a higher current rating.

Model ST360 can be connected in either battery cable and is designed to be mounted on a panel on the vehicle. Model ST370 has a lug for connecting onto the battery and is designed to fit on the positive battery terminal.

Prices are: Model ST360: 19s6d.; Model ST370, £1 8s. 6d.

Two New Hand Tools

TWO new heavy duty industrial power tools are announced by Black and Decker, Ltd., Harmondsworth, Middx. They are the +-in. Shorty Drill, price £28, and the No. 8 Gauge Nibbler, price £160.

The lightweight Shorty Drill weighs only 3+ lb. and has a powerful motor, cooled by twin fans, for continuous heavy duty use. Drilling capacity is I in. in steel and in. in hardwood. An offset head permits close drilling on flush work, the distance from the edge of the housing to the chuck centre being the shortest of any drill on the market (maximum of 1.375 in., minimum of 1 in.). No load speed is 2,000 r.p.m. and on load the

• speed is 1,000 r.p.m.

The No 8 Nibbler works on a punch and die principle. As the tool is fed along the cutting line, small rectangular pieces of metal are punched out leaving a smooth edge. The material on each side of the line is not bent or curled. Pattern lines can be followed on either side of the punch, which is made of highspeed steel. A carbide die for longer, more efficient cutting, and a heat treated and nitrided stripper, are incorporated. An automatic oiler deposits the correct amount of oil on the work to increase punch and die life.
