Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE suitability of plastics for widely different purposes will be strongly evident on the 66 bodybuilders' stands at the Commercial

Motor Show at Earls Court. To some extent, the development of this new material has arrested the increasing use of aluminium for commercialvehicle bodywork, although this lightweight metal has in many cases continued to replace the more conventional materials.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this new trend is that confidence in plastics appears to be greater among goods operators. At least one van which will be displayed is built almost entirely—even the frame —of gloss-fibre. The most common application of plastics is for roofs, although it is also popular as a material in which to form wings and corner panels.

One of the double-deck buses on view will have a plastics roof, which is detachable from the upper-deck waist level.

Helping the hard-pressed bus operator in Britain in his fight against ever-increasing costs, passenger-body exhibitors will offer greater seating capacities, the highest in a doubledecker on a bodybuilder's stand being 74. The operator looking for a medium-capacity coach or single

deck bus will also find these among the exhibits at Earls Court.

Coaches will reveal a strong Continental influence. Indeed, the Continent itself will be represented, a newcomer among the exhibitors this year being Chausson, probably the largest passenger bodybuilders in France.

GOODS 1--IN show for the first time will be two `,.." examples of the new range of Durarnin standard bodywork. To be seen on Stand 48, these exhibits will comprise a 16-ft.-long drop-sided body, weighing only 81 cwt., on a Dodge chassis, and a 15-ft.-9-in. platform body, weighing 6i cwt., on an Albion Chieftain. A feature of the drop-sided body is the robust double-skin construction of the side boards, permitting a flush finish both inside and out.

Several examples of the "packaged standard" light-alloy bodies recently introduced by Bonallack will be on
