Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

in Full Production TW° vehicles in tin. Harrier range which are noW in full production for supply to civilian '.operators are the Bantam 2-tonner and the tractor model. which hauls a load of five tons on a semi-tracto.

One outstanding difference between the pre-war version of the Karrier Bantam and the model now produced lies in the employment of hydraulically operated brakes in place of the mechanical type. ,

• It is of the fully forward-control type having a petrol engine which develops 40 b.h p , with a Treasury rating of 13.95 h.p. It has a bore of 75 mm. and a stroke of 110 mm., the total piston-swept volume being 1,944 c.c. Hardened liners are used in the cylinder bores, and the pistons,

• which are in cast iron, are each fitted with three compression rings and a scraper.

• The drive is taken through a single. dry-plate, clutch to a four-speed-andreverse gearbox and thence by a .tubular propeller shaft to the spiralbevel-driven rear axle. The latter is of the fully floating type, the casing being a steel pressing with detachable cover, which permits of the differential assembly being removed as a unit. .

• Channel steel, of 4-in, by 2-in. section.. isused for. the-frame members, to which the cross-members are welded. The front springs are 38 ins_ long by 21 ins, wide, whilst those at the rear, which, incidentally, _are underslurtg, measure 32 ins, by 21 ins.

Steering is carried out by cam and roller gear, the angle of lock obtained permitting a turning . circle of 29 ft. 6 ins. in the case of the lorry arid 24 ft. 6 ins, in tractor form:.

As previously mentioned, the brakes are now hydraulically operated. The frontbrakes are 13 ins, diameter-and'

with trailers three-point supported when detached. We understand that the J model enables trailers of the Scammell M.H.3 type to be used.

The shortened wheelbase of the tractor—the dimension is 6 ft.— perm of extreme manceuvrability.

As is known, these coupling gears are .automatic in action, in that the tractive unit becomes locked to the semi trailer as it is reversed on to it. ,
