• Turning a 16.5m long tanker in a tight yard is made a little easier with the help of some lifting axles and rear steer.
DW Weaver of Staffordshire says it is able to turn its tankers on a sixpence thanks to three lifting axles. Two are on the Massey tanker, while the third is a mid-lift on the Daf FTC 85CF.
A Hosta hydraulic unit is used for the positive rear steer on the trailer, which can raise its Mentor axles as a pair or individually The rig is plated at 41 tonnes with a view to moving to 44 tonnes, but the tight turn. ing capability has to be used selectively and with care to avoid blowing tyres.
