QFFICIALS of Scotland Yard's fraud squad are investigating allegations of fraud, said to involve a total of £800,000, connected with the Alfreton haulage company, E. E. Bamford (Contractors), Ltd.

It was reported in The Commercial Motor on Seikember 2 that a receiver and manager had been appointed to the company, Four associated companies, Bamford (Engineers), Ltd., E. E. Bamford (Louth), Ltd., E. E. Bamford (Liverpool), Ltd., and Clumber Transport, Ltd., who, together with E. E. Bamford (Contractors), Ltd., run more than 300 vehicles, some of them on special A licences, were also affected.

The investigations began some weeks ago. Among other things, the police are trying to discover the whereabouts of a fleet of lorries valued at more than £300,000 which some people believe exists only on paper.

The investigation, which is expected to take some time, is taking in hauliers and hire-purchase companies in many parts of the country.

THEpossibility of private operators being permitted to undertake minor services which the London Transport Executive could provide only at a loss is a matter which should be pursued, according to member authorities in the London area of the Association of Municipal Corporations.

This is one of the views of the authorities on the recent committee of Inquiry into the L.T.E. passed to the Ministry of Transport by the Association,

The councils also consider that insufficient thought has been given to the matter of bus crews who, because of delays in the central area, arrive late at their destinations and then have their normal rest period, thereby creating gaps in services.

They have also told the Ministry that 'suburban bus routes should be terminated on the edge of the central area.
