BEDFORD-based JDL Logistics has entered administration, leading to a loss of 29 jobs at the pallet haulier.
The firm, headed by directors Stephen and Lesley O'Neil, had an 0-licence for 17 vehicles and 10 trailers registered at the Viking Industrial Estate.
Elwell Watchorn & Saxton was appointed on 30 October to handle the administration. While JDL's directors declined to comment, administrator Graham Wolloff said the transport side of the business had been closed with immediate effect, leading to the loss of 29
jobs. He added that all the firm's vehicles were hired.
"There was no single issue that caused the company's demise, rather a gradual decline in turnover," Wolloff said.
The administrator is now attempting to sell the leasehold on JBL's 64,583ft2 warehouse, which is being kept open to facilitate a sale. Nine staff have been kept on to support this process.
Robert Ball, MD at Total Logistics UK, has depots in Glasgow and Rochester. He had sub-contracted for JDL Logistics for the past year, running pallets from Bedford into Scotland. He claimed payments, which
were supposed to be weekly, were infrequent, and that they stopped entirely in mid-October. He claimed that he is owed £17,000.
JDL Logistics was part of the Fortec pallet network.
A spokeswoman for Fortec said: "The area that JDL covered is now being serviced by two existing members: APLE and Linkline Transport."
The company had also been trading in the Palletways network.
A spokesman for Palletways said that H&M Distribution has now set up a new depot to service the area covered by JDL Logistics.
