• German trailer builder Schmitz and Ray Smith Demountables were this week believed to be front runners in the race to take over at least part of the York Group.
Negotiations between possible buyers for the Corby-based trailer manufacturer and receiver Cork Gully were nearing a conclusion as CM went to press. Cork Gully says that any sale is now likely to be "in the near future".
Preston Allen, managing director of Schmitz's Wokingham-based importer says that negotiations are being handled by Schmitz in Germany, "We have not been involved, but hopefully we will be," he says.
He had hoped to find a partner two years ago to start producing rigid bodies in the UK, Cambridgeshire-based Ray Smith Demountables is believed to be negotiating for Abel Demountables.
