Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I was interested to read the letter from Mr Hanley of Bedale (CM 26 Sept-2 Oct) regarding the poor public image of the road transport industry.

I travel on the M1 from Hemel Hempstead to London and back each day. If Mr Hanley was to drive his car along the same route every day, he would quickly forget his highfalutin ideas about RoTEC and realise that plain bad driving and ignoring the basic rules of motorway driving are the real cause of the industry's bad image.

Deal with that, and your own industry's cowboys, and the image will improve considerably.

R Ogden Hemel Hempstead, Herts.
