Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

in Companies who fail to pay hauliers for work are to be blacklisted by trade association the Transport Users Group.

TUG director Robert Sutton is urging hauliers who have not been paid for loads to get in touch so that a non-payers' directory can be compiled.

Sutton is appealing to other industry bodies for help to acquire and compile information on non-payers and says he is planning to approach both the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association.

Last month Commercial Motor reported on a survey showing that only the construction industry suffers as badly as hauliers from bad debts (CM 17-23 Oct).

Sutton wants hauliers to contact him if they have not been paid but stresses that any information will be checked thoroughly to make sure it is not inspired by a grudge.

"We already have a long list of companies who are non-payers," says Sutton, now we want to get everyone involved in reporting non-payment."

The blacklist will be available to TUG members but Sutton says he does not mind if other trade bodies compile their own lists of non-payers.

TUG urges good freight forwarders and clearing houses to get involved, because they are "getting tarred with the same brush. We are having some success at stopping the parasites, but if we had more support from the hauliers, we could do much more," says Sutton.
