• Specific operational needs has led to Boalloy changing its designs to suit customers.
Fleming Howden of Clydebank needed the Linldiner body on its Mercedes 1314 rigid to have a front chilled/ambient compartment and the frozen section at the rear. Both are separated by a JRS thermal bulkhead.
To achieve this Boalloy has reversed the Linkliner's usual two-track door system, replacing its standard 21mm thick doors with 45mm ones using offset rim tracks.
Its hinged door section was then fitted on to the leading edges of the rear doors on the outer tracks using rolling cog aluminium hinges and pressure sealed at the edges. This was necessary to protect the rear freezer section from heat gain.
For Bass, extra floor reinforcement has been built into a batch of 17 Tautliner curtainsided dray bodies on Volvo FL7 rigids to overcome impact damage from beer barrels during loading.
Instead of the usual subframe, Boalloy has fitted 100mm deep aluminium cross bearers, pitched 90mm closer at 280mm behind the rear axle. Ahead of the rear axle, the usual 370mm spacing is maintained.
The lateral spars now locate on chair-type brackets bolted to side supports on the chassis rails, above it is a special 35mm floor of Keruing hardwood-faced ply with 3.0mm steel rear edging.
Running on 275/70 22.5 tyres, the floor height is about 1.12m. Rear air suspension allows the deck to be levelled.
