THE COMMERCIAL electri vehicle has a distinct advantag over its diesel counterpar where vulnerability to fuel pric rises is concerned, according t Dr David Porter of the Electricit Council.
Speaking in Baltimore, USA at EV Expo 81, Dr Porter said the fuel represents 19 per cent of th operating cost of a diesel vehicl while electricity accounts fo only five to six per cent of that c its electric counterpart.
According to Dr Porter, higl annual mileages significantl• improve the case for the electri vehicle.
The principal areas of higl sensitivity in determining econo mic viability, he said, are vehicli cost, depreciation policy, batten cost and battery fife.
