road gritter based on the 7.2 tonnes gvw chassis giving non hgv flexibility in usage to the operator.
Three machines have been supplied to London's Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for use on inner city applications, built on the Dodge 50Series model 566 of 3.22m (127in) wheelbase and 6.5 tonnes gvw meet the requirements of Class B BS 1622 1976.
The gritter uses standard modules produced by a flow line built at ECON's Ripon factories and it requires only slight modifications to enable them to be matched to smaller vehicles.
It incorporates a 2cum struck capacity hopper with a 3m conveyor, which is driven hydraulically by a pump powered by the crankshaft of the vehicle engine.
An hydraulic control valve in the cab gives direct control of the variable discharge rate and the speed width.
Both the conveyor speed and the single spreading spinner rotation are "linked" hydraulically so that a constant density of spread can be achieved at a constant road speed, even if the spread width is altered.
