Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Grip additive

Shown for the first time--on the AC Delco stand—is a new spray-on liquid said to triple tyre traction on ice and snow by overcoming the film of water that acts as a lubricant between ice and tyres. It is compounded from specially blended resins which react with water to form a sticky coating on the tyre. The effect of one application is claimed to last for several miles over snowy roads and the spray is packed in handy 4oz aerosol cans which contains sufficient liquid for several applications.

Another new material shown here is Optikleen, a windscreen washer solvent. This contains newly developed cleaning ingredients claimed to remove stubborn organic deposits bonded to the surface of windscreen glass and which cause dangerous loss of vision when wipers are first operated on a wet screen. Optikleen can be used neat to obtain an initially contamination-free screen and thereafter if used regularly at the recommended standard dilution will prevent further build-up of deposits and keep the windscreen optically clean.

Optikleen contains anti-freeze and the standard dilution will remain unaffected at temperatures down to 28deg. F (2deg. Cl. Stronger solutions will provide additional frost protection .although special care must be taken of vehicles with air-dried paint finishes.

OTHER NEW ITEMS Bench units

Welconstruct has introduced a series of bench units known as the Welfix range. These are neatly and strongly made of lin. square-steel-tubing and have a choice of tops-blockboard, plastics laminate (Formica or similar), vinyl on blockboard, or varnished chipboard. Optional extras can be fitted to any unit to suit any particular purposes. The extras include drawers, cupboard units, bottom shelves and castors.

The benches are designed for clipping together and give work stations or lay-outs which can be readily changed to meet new demands of production or work load. Standard sizes are 4ft by 2ft and 6ft by 2ft by 30in., 33in. or 36in. high.

Made by: Welconstruct Co. Ltd., Camden House Parade, Birmingham 1.

Price: From £7 per unit according to specification.

Plastics pallet

A lightweight, injection-moulded plastics pallet, claimed to be stronger, safer, and more hygienic than conventional wooden pallets, is now available—in two sizes—from WCB Containers. They are designed to allow fork-lift truck entry from all four sides and entry by pallet-fork truck from two sides.

The pallets, which conform with the US Food and Drugs Act resist most acids and alkalis and a wide range of chemicals, and do not pick-up odour where the scent of previously carried loads is transmitted to the next load. They are impervious to moisture and have a guaranteed constant weight—important for export goods passing through Customs.

The two models now available are designed to meet both UK and European replacement pallet requirements. They are: the C2 which is 47,+in. by 31;in. by 5;in. high 11,200mm by 800mm by 140mm) and weighs 2411b (11kg). This pallet has a fork-lift truck rating of 2,200lb (1,000kg). The Cl, which is 47k-in. by 39-iin. by 51in. high (1,200mm by 1,000mm by 140mm) and weighs 28){1b (13kg) and has a fork-lift truck rating of 2,2001b (1,000kg). Alternator

Ford has introduced a highoutput alternator option for all petrol versions of the Transit. The option, available through the Ford SVO department, has been designed to meet the needs of specialist operation where greater electrical capacity than standard is required.

The new alternator is a Lucas 17 ACR which has an output of 36amp instead of the 28amp of the standard Lucas 15 ARC alternator.

Marketed by: Ford Motor Co. Ltd., Brentwood, Essex.

Price: £6. Prices: Cl. single—£11 is; 25—f9 15s; 100—£9 5s. C2, single—£10 12s; 25—£9 6s; 100—£8 17s. A fuel evaporation-loss control device comprising canisters packed with activated carbon is shown. These canisters store petrol vapour emissions from the fuel tank or carburetter, the smog producing hydrocarbons subsequently being purged from the canister and consumed by the engine during normal operation. The system will comply with the Californian emission controls to be introduced in January 1970; similar controls may one day be introduced in the United Kingdom.
