The great and the good of the lorry world gathered in Peterborough for the Truckfest extravaganza. CM brings you the highlights of this celebration of all things truck.

VISITORS TO THIS year's Truckfest Peterborough might have been forgiven for thinking the torrent of financial doom is a figment of someone's overzealous imagination. There were sizeable crowds, a healthy 1,000-plus competitors and no sign of the obligatory Hula Hoops being banished from manufacturers' hospitality units.

However, beneath the surface lay an undercurrent of worrying uncertainty. A number of operators and drivers we spoke to voiced no signs of any optimism. Some had seen their fleets cut by half — with threats of more cutbacks if (or when) the recession deepens. Others were faring better, but finding new trucks among the rows of metal proved harder than the proverbial haystack needle.

That said, there was still plenty of more upbeat and interesting things that caught CM's eye over the weekend. Here's just a few..
