• Fire engine manufacturer Carmichael Fire has been saved from the receiver by the owner of rival Dennis Specialist Vehicles (CM 26 March-1 April).
Trinity Holdings has bought the Z315m-turnover business as well as Carmichael Spares and Service: both are based in Worcester. Trinity has re-employed 60 former Carmichael staff to clear an order book of around 25 vehicles and it hopes to offer jobs to the remaining 60 staff who were laid off by the receiver when the Carmichael Group went under in March.
Trinity will keep the Carmichael name separate from Dennis, which manufactures up to 200 fire tenders a year including the Rapier, SS, RS and DS, alongside 2,300 other vehicles including buses, tankers and refuse vehicles.
Now Trinity plans to inject capital into Carmichael Fire's product range, which includes Land Rover-based units and 8x8 airfield crash tenders.
Carmichael Fire was profit-making when its parent company pulled it into receivership after failing to trim down its 240 workforce at Worcester and West Bromwich in line with a fall in production, says receiver Cork Gully.
