• There was more than just glitz and glitter to last week's Truckfest. One regular visitor, Nene Trailers, took the opportunity to show off the first drawbar versions of its novel expanding combine carrier.
One was based on a Leyland Daf 95-380 for Rugby-based Les Arnold Machinery Transport; the other was on a Scania R113 for Richard Long of Wymondham. Both are 6x2s with full air suspension to enable all axles to be raised or lowered.
To carry the huge combines, the 18.33m drawbar outfits' 7.71 and 7.47m main deck, neck and tail sections are wound out from the 2.5m C&U limit to 3.1m. Although limited to 32.5 tonnes GTW in the UK, the outfits have a design limit of 52 tonnes gross.
