Severe warning • West Midland DLA Alan Cattell has given Allen Rowland & Co a severe warning about maintenance of its 34 vehicles. Following the issue of immediate prohibitions, and difficulty in getting them cleared, an engineering consultant was called in, the inspection period reduced and the FTA brought in.
Unfair dismissal ▪ K Transport Services has been ordered to pay driver Richard Small ,265 compensation for unfair dismissal after selecting him for redundancy because he was off sick. A Birmingham Industrial Tribunal also ordered the company to make him a redundancy payment of £414.18.
Sacking unfair • DanaIls Transport has been ordered to pay £11.746 compensation for unfair dismissal to driver Charles Purcell. A Birmingham Industrial Tribunal said Purcell had been sacked after refusing to accept a reduction in pay and an increase in his working hours.
Under pressure • Five offences of altering entries on tachograph charts, and one of exceeding the daily driving limit, cost Glossop lorry driver Ellis Nicholson £105 in fines when he appeared before the Macclesfield Magistrates.
