• Salford Van Hire has ordered 183 new vehicles from Mercedes-Benz (UK).
The Vm order covers seven models from 3.5-tonne vans to 38-tonne tractive units and includes the latest 1834 LEV (low emission vehicle) artic. M-B (UK) truck sales director Arthur Tokey says the company is particularly pleased to have won the contract "because the rental business is acknowledged as one of the toughest environments for trucks".
The vehicles are being delivered via Ensor Motors of War rington and Northside Trucks of Bradford; the order will take three months to complete.
Raffaello Bacci, chairman of Salford Van Hire, placed the order because he believes the long-awaited upturn in the economy has arrived: "There is a little bit of upsurge and people have not got the vehicles," he says. We have a great demand for short-term hire, both now and for the autumn."
As the vehicles are delivered Salford will equip them to customer requirements: van bodies and taillifts are in particular demand. Bacci says he is receiving up to 20 vehicles every 10 days. "We will order more vehicles from other manufacturers," he says.
