Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LEYLAND TRUCKS management this week accused 1,300 of its hourly-paid workers at the Albion axle plant in Glasgow of striking prematurely in a protest against redundancies.

The strike began on Monday in protest against 146 redundancies, 110 of them among hourly paid workers, and follows a ban on overtime and other sanctions which prompted Leyland to announce 50 lay-offs of staff.

But Leyland says more than half the redundancies will be voluntary and it expects many more volunteers will come forward. "As each day passes, the redundancies become less of an issue," a spokesman told CM.

Last year, 140 jobs were lost at Albion as part of a 4,100 job shedding exercise in the Leyland Vehicles restructuring plan. There are 1,750 workers there at present.
