Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As I read that excellent report of the tipper conference in last week's issue of CM I pulled up short at the phrase "We have no intention of allowing our drivers.

. ." Hallo, I thought, I must have made a mistake. This can't be Jackson Moore of URTU speaking, so I started again. I wasn't mistaken, it was the union man. "Dear me," I thought, "how unlike Jackson. Perhaps a friendly word might help." So here it is.

Trade union leaders are appointed to negotiate and arbitrate, not to dictate. Not to their members and not to the employers. You see, the union members are first and foremost employees or, if you like, members of a company. Without employees and employers there would be no URTU, without a URTU there would be no general secretary. Just thought a friendly word might help to get the record straight. By the way, I've no objection to other union officials picking up this advice for free.
